For art lovers:
Singapore Art Museum - admission is free after 6PM and closes at 9 (hey, don't fret - it's still free, an hour should be more than enough to visit the entire museum). Information gathered from the website says that it was used to be the St Joseph’s Institution, the city’s first all-boys school, established by French Catholic monks. It is also one of the most impressive constructions in Singapore. The museum's exhibits are predominantly 20th-century South-East Asian art with paintings. It also broadened its scope to include the rest of Asia. Exit through Dhoby Gaut MRT and the museum is just a few meters away.
Changi Prison Chapel and Museum - Photographs, letters and drawings in the museum describe the daily life of the prisoners. The museum showcases the shocking times during WW2.
The important part of the exhibition is a series of paintings, called the Changi Murals, recreated from those painted by the British POW Stanley Warren. There are also daily guided tours on the hour (admission is free but the guided tours will cost you $6).
Want to have your photo souvenir taken at the most iconic symbol in Singapore? Here are the five (5) locations of the Merlion:

- Merlion Park - the most prominent and the most visited Merlion symbol can be found at the heart of the city. Located at One Fullerton, if you plan to take the train, head out at Raffles Place MRT (green line)
- There is a two-metre-tall cub statue standing behind the original statue as well
- Sentosa Island - a 37-metre-tall gigantic replica – with Mouth Gallery Viewing Deck on the ninth storey or can be taken just right outside for a better view. Watch how the color changes at night as well. If you are already within the vicinity of Universal Studios, there is a link and it is just a few but meters away
- Another one is the three-metre-tall glazed polymarble statue at Tourism Court near Grange Road
- Complete your photo souvenirs at the three-metre-tall polymarble statue placed on Mount Faber (opposite side of Sentosa). Easiest way is to ride the Cable Car (this one you have to shed out some cash) to transport all the way to Mount Faber
For your playful tots:
Vivo City Playground - head out at the shopping mall at level 2 - there you will find a small play area and water fountain plus go-karts, swings and a roof-top sky park garden. If the water fountain is not enough, head out to level 3 and you will find a big wading pool that children can either soak their feet in or even swim. Watch them as you enjoy the view of the river or the far view of Sentosa. Opens from 10AM to 10PM.
West Coast Park - this is a pirate ship-like themed playground where kids could climb ropes, or play in the swings. A big climbing rope pyramid which is great for your older kids is also present. There is also a lot of greenery to play ball, play catch and tag or you may want to fly kites or simply just have a picnic. You can also bike around or if you have scooters, take a spin around the cycle paths. Opens from 7AM till 7PM. Bring food though as you wouldn't find a nearby restaurant. For kids though, Mc Donald's will come to the rescue.
